He'll be back. Scotty Bowman announced he will return for at least one more season as Red Wings' coach. Ending speculation he might retire, the winningest coach in NHL history made his announcement after getting a clean bill of health. "We met shortly after we were eliminated. I told him I wanted him back," GM Ken Holland said. "Of course, I wanted to make sure he was healthy. We're very happy he's agreed to come back." As for what lurks beyond the 2000-01 season, Bowman was non-commital. "Well, in this business, it's year-to-year anyway," he said. "You'd like to go as far as you can. I know my time will come some day." ... The Red Wings lost centers Stacy Roest and Darryl Laplante to the Minnesota Wild in the expansion draft. ... Detroit used the next-to-last pick in the first round of the NHL draft -- 29th overall -- on Swedish D Niklas Kronvall. The 5-11, 165-pounder was expected to be around in the second round, but the Red Wings used its first-rounder on a defenseman for the sixth straight draft. ...
